In the Last Decade, There Has Been a Great Increase in The Number and Variety of Online Courses (1)

In the last decade, there has been a great increase in the number and variety of online courses available to adults. This has been welcomed as a great opportunity by many students. However, other students see these courses as less effective than classroom teaching. What are the advantages and disadvantages of studying an online course?

Over the past ten years, remote lessons through the internet have enjoyed a massive increase in terms of the number and choices of subjects. While the shift in learning method has been greeted by many pupils with open arms, a fraction of students consider these kinds of teaching to be ineffective compared to the conventional lessons. This essay will elaborate on the positives of the online lesson, as well as the negatives imposed by this brand new method.

Learning by means of the internet equals more flexibility. Students from countries like Indonesia can enrol on the course hosted by Universities in countries as far as the United States. There is no need for them to provide expenditures such as transportation and accommodations; they only need to have a stable internet connection, and in some lessons, an enrollment fee. Apart from that, the pupils can also choose a wide range of subjects to satisfy their thirst for knowledge. Thanks to the advancement of technology, the internet allow them to browse lots of courses in an instant, without having to ask directly to certain universities of course initiators in places that might be way too far for them.

Apart from the positives, some negatives might occur within this remote learning method. Not all countries have an adequate internet connection. Some courses require not only to load the lecturer’s screen for learning materials but also have to stream their videos to undergo a proper discussion. This could affect the pupil badly if they wanted to answer their questions directly as the lesson is conducted. Another thing to be taken into careful consideration of, the time difference might prove crucial. The learner from Asian countries must endure the sleepless night to follow the course held from the opposite side of the world.

Considering the mentioned aspects, it is up to the learner’s choice whether to conduct online learning or the conventional one. The most important thing is, despite both methods having different natures, the only goal remains the same: to broaden their knowledge for a better future.
