The Best Curriculum Is Not One Based on A Static Body of Knowledge

The Best Curriculum Is Not One Based on A Static Body of Knowledge, but One Which Teaches Students to Cope with Change. to What Extent Do You Agree or Disagree?

Educational curriculum is of utmost importance to every country’s educational system. As a result, recent facts have stated that the best learning method is not dependent on knowledge that is fixed in nature but on one that trains learners to adapt positively to different situations. This essay explains why I entirely agree with this notion, as it provides students with numerous job opportunities and prevents limitations in knowledge.

First of all, a school training program should be designed to help students adapt to situations because this can provide numerous job opportunities after their schooling. Admittedly, a learner trained to better cope with situations possesses abilities such as critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and being productive even under extreme pressure. This is unlikely to be achieved by a student whose curriculum solely depends on an enclosed body of knowledge. Consequently, one more adaptable to change will be considered in the search for jobs compared to the other counterpart. For instance, the Canadian educational curriculum is designed so that all courses are mandatory for students at the primary and secondary levels, helping learners better cope with situations and enhancing their employment opportunities.

Secondly, the phenomenon mentioned above avoids limitations in knowledge by students. Although students whose educational curricula are designed to be fixed in nature have in-depth knowledge of their field of study, they cannot compare themselves to their counterparts whose curricula are planned to enable them to withstand different situations, as they have a broader knowledge base. They have information on myriad topics, which they can easily apply when needed. To buttress this point, Ghanaian students are very knowledgeable in the theoretical aspect because of how their school curriculum has been structured.

In conclusion, I reiterate my point that although structuring an educational program to be static has its benefits, there are many benefits to a curriculum that enables students to have better adaptability, as this helps create employment opportunities and broadens students’ horizons.
