The Gap Between the Rich and The Poor Is Becoming Wider

The Gap Between the Rich and The Poor Is Becoming Wider (1)

The gap between the rich and the poor is becoming wider; the rich are becoming richer, and the poor are getting even poorer. What problems can the situation cause? What can be done to reduce this gap? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.

The difference in financial status in the society is increasing day in day out, and The wealthy are now wealthier while those with low status are more like a church mice. We need to identify the effect of this matter and how we can bridge this gap that expands daily between the upper class and lower class.

The major effect of poverty in society is an increased rate of criminal acts, especially robbery, because less privileged will always want to use any available opportunity or means to survive in fact, the fastest route at that, consequently they tend to find a way of getting from the rich once they can not find a means for living, so most engage in robbing them either by burgling their houses or charging an unreasonable fee for services rendered to them. For example, there was a time I wanted to buy plantain from a woman along one main road in my town, she called five plantains five hundred nairas, as I was standing still trying to bargain, a luxurious car just Parked beside me and the owner asked the woman how she sells, immediately the woman answered the five plantains is one thousand and five hundred nairas, at first I was startled and felt I didn’t hear right until she repeated herself, so in this case, the woman has robbed.

In addition, another consequence of the wide gap between social classes is discrimination because society sees the rich as better people than the poor. Discrimination is becoming the order of the day to the extent that the poor cannot get justice when they deserve it; on the other hand, the rich can now get away with any criminal offence as long they can buy their way out. For instance, A rich kid was charged to court on account of rape, but he was declared guiltless because his father was able to get a good Lawyer and bribe the Judge in charge of the case.

In conclusion, the space between social class is progressively expanding, and this has a negative effect on society and individuals in general; therefore, to solve this problem, the rich need to cultivate the habit of selfless giving to the less privileged around them, this will help to reduce the rate poverty, therefore, help to close or reduce the gap between the wealthy and the poor. Also, another solution is government should organise a program to help improve the economy so as to help improve the financial capability of the poor.
