The Use of Social Media Is Replacing Face-To-Face Interaction Among Many People in Society (3) (1)

The use of social media is replacing face-to-face interaction among many people in society. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

In the modern scenario, with advancements in technology face to face interaction is declining due to the use of social media among people in society. While there are some drawbacks, I think its benefits are more significant.

Undoubtedly, there are two main detriments of this situation that a person’s non-verbal cues are difficult to observe. Today instead of meeting friends, we rather call, text or instant message them. While speaking to a person online, we can not observe non-verbal cues such as smiling and body gestures. People cannot identify the emotions being expressed by the people with whom they are talking .text does not convey a true picture of their intonations or facial expressions. It can cause confusion also to another person as text could be interpreted differently as it is devoid of emotion.

The second one is that Technology isolates us from society. A person might possess interpersonal skills .this is because the user would not be concerned with the relationship in the real world. They might lose how to behave with elders and relatives in the society and even their communication skills as they are adversely affected by using social media.

However, in my view, the benefits undermine the above-mentioned drawbacks. The first benefit is that it helps to communicate even in the hectic schedule of our life. In our busy lives, getting in via Facebook or text voice a week may be more valuable than the monthly visit .due to a busy schedule, it is difficult to talk to friends or relatives face-to-face on a daily basis .at this point, social media comes to their rescue .for example majority of people in foreign countries uses social media to communicate as they have less time to visit the friends due to work pressure and fast pace life which they live in.

The second one is that it provides a video calling facility by which people can communicate easily living anywhere in the world with their parents and friends. We are living in a globalised world, and social media is a great platform to connect to people who are living in foreign countries and that too by video calling. Social media has become a platform for bridging boundaries between people living in countries all over the world. For instance, many of the international students talk to their parents on a daily basis through Skype or WhatsApp, which further enhance their bonding with their families.

To conclude, although there are some disadvantages of using social media, my view is that advantages carry more weight.
