Thanks to all the improvements made in medical research since the last century that have marked a huge change in our world, we all live longer and in better health. In this part of the world to which we belong, life expectancy has had a relevant increase and is still increasing. As a direct consequence, aged people are working longer nowadays as no government can pay retiring wages for such a long period of life. Therefore, most nations have decided that people have to retire from work later than before.

That also means that there is a consistent quantity of aged people, whereas, on the other hand, natality doesn’t follow the same rhythm; therefore, there are fewer young people to take care of the older generation. The younger population should be the working category, which produces resources that allow a Government to assume all the costs regarding the elderly society.

For instance, in Italy, the population is getting older and older, and therefore, we have to assume various consequences such as medical and social costs to take care of aged people, and this is a huge issue that requires strong measures that the Government should take.

I believe that we should act the way France did some years ago. French Government has invested an enormous quantity of resources in families. People have been encouraged to have children, and families currently receive important financial help for each newborn. This will lead to a varied society consisting of young workers who are able to ensure good assistance to the elders.
