In many countries around the world, life expectancy is increasing. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this situation and give your own opinion.
Advancement in medicine and medical education and its related investments around the globe is now manifested as increasing life expectancy (increase in average life span). Though this can be said to be a piece of great news for humanity, it also comes with its own trouble, and we take a look at both gains and shortcomings in the next few paragraphs.
Most importantly, an increase in life expectancy has made it possible for people to enjoy the fruit of their labour before passing to eternity. For instance, property acquired is significantly utilized by the owner before they die. Again, they are able to accomplish their dreams, especially those related to family responsibilities such as children upbringing and education, parental care, among others. These responsibilities are not left to one partner or society. Children are also able to enjoy the company of parents as well as grandparents.
On the other hand, though this is a joy for individuals and humanity at large, long life is gradually impacting problems to society today as there is increasing in the population size. The population have resulted in social problems such as unemployment that also lead to other social vices such as armed robbery and prostitution. Overpopulation has also led humanity to over explore the resources leading to environmental challenges such ad erosion, tsunami and pollution. There is also a reduction in the workforce of the nation as more of the population is aged and not productive.
Society will continue to increase the number of years the average human survive the planet. However, there need to be measured into place to maintain a reasonable population.
