The Main Purpose of Public Libraries Is to Provide Books

The main purpose of public libraries is to provide books, and they should not waste their limited resources and space on providing expensive hi-tech media such as computer software, videos, and DVDs. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is argued that the principal purpose of public libraries is to give books and magazines and they should not be allowed to provide their place for expensive technology media such as personal computers, audio, and video.

This essay disagrees with the above statement. In this essay, I would like to discuss why libraries should advance their limited place with new technology.

To begin with, Traditional public libraries have been known as the hub of the dispensation of essential, literary as well as non-literary, sources of knowledge to the masses. In other words, numerous scholars and students still visit libraries to study and borrow books. The option of having myriad choices of books at a considerable economical borrowing price attracts many booklet readers to prefer public libraries. Moreover, some underprivileged young people and elderly who don’t know how to use a computer but want to broaden their horizons will still visit these places.

Technology has changed the whole world. Nowadays, everything is changing with globalization. With the advent of modern-day computers, tablets & e-book readers, more and more people are opting for e-books, and so there has been a drastic decline in book readers opting for regular printed books. For the same reasons, to stay relevant to the trend public libraries have started keeping media resources. Therefore, libraries should also follow the global technology trend.

To conclude, it seems to me that public libraries should put technology media available to all members of society. So, that everyone who visits a library can use both books and technology.
